W. Brother William Bignell

First, let me say that I consider it an honour, and a privilege to have been chosen to be Worshipful Master of Brotherhood Lodge for the 2011/2012 year. Brotherhood Lodge was instituted on September 27, 1973, and is registered as Lodge #723 at Grand Lodge in the Province of Ontario.

Prior to becoming a Mason several years ago, I had read several books on the subject of Freemasonry ; some which claimed the order dates back to biblical times. Others claim Freemasonry is a “secret society” that practices Satanic rituals and holds mass orgies. Well, that may sell books, but none of it is true.

Freemasonry is a fraternity of men who believe that having a strong moral character is more important than rank or physical wealth. We devote a lot of effort to building upon that good character within our group. It is said that one of the most important goals of Freemasonry is “Making good men better”.

Although Freemasonry is not a service club, our order does support several charities. For the most part, we do this without much fanfare, but most people have heard about the great work the Shriners (a group within Masonry) do at their burn and children’s hospitals.

We do not advertise or solicit new members. The motivation must come from within new applicants. Having said that, if you want to know how to become a Mason – ask one.
